VETERANS of Britain's campaigns in South Asia in the 1950s and 60s have been presented with medals by the grateful Malaysian Government at a ceremony in the Westcountry.
The Pigat Jasa Malaysia Medal is being awarded to all Commonwealth service men and women who served in Malaya, Singapore and Borneo between August 1957 and August 1966.
About 200 ex-servicemen from Devon and Cornwall received their medals at a ceremony at the Holiday Inn in Plymouth on Friday.
Pandora Beads Wholesale Christopher Clements, 65, from St Budeaux, Plymouth, who served with 95 Commando, said: "It's nice to be recognised for what we did during the sixties."
Keith Mullin, from Ivybridge, a Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineer attached to the Gurkhas at that time, said: "It's nice to come here and see so many faces, to see that so many are still around."
John Walker, 73, from Keyham, Plymouth, took part in a raid on Limbang in Brunei to free Fendi Replica Handbags hostages in 1962.
The former Marine of 42 Commando said he was pleased to receive his medal, although he modestly claimed the action was "not dangerous". Five Marines were killed that day.
The Malaysian High Commission in London has presented about 16,000 of the Pigat Jasa medals since its introduction in July 2006. The Queen has given permission for British ex-servicemen and women to accept them.
